Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the extended deadline aims to encourage more owners and developers to regularize their physical planning approvals, alleviating economic pressures in the sector and fostering compliance. The amnesty program is part of a broader effort to create a more organized, livable, and sustainable Lagos.
Additionally, the Governor introduced a Physical Planning Permit Barcode at the summit. This barcode will be issued to buildings with approved permits, allowing regulatory officers to quickly verify approvals and minimizing unnecessary interference by officials. The Governor emphasized that the summit is essential to transforming Lagos into a resilient, sustainable 21st-century megacity and highlighted his commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability through enhanced urban planning.
