Lafarge Africa Plc has introduced ECOPlanetUnicem, a groundbreaking low-carbon cement aimed at revolutionizing sustainable building solutions. Produced at its Mfamosing plant in Cross River State, this innovative product is set to launch nationwide by year-end, marking a significant step towards doubling market presence and promoting low-carbon construction practices at scale.
Speaking at the launch event held at Carlton Swiss Hotel in Enugu, Lafarge Africa’s Group Managing Director/CEO, Lolu AladeโAkinyemi, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. “ECOPlanetUnicem isn’t just a new product; it’s a redefinition of how we approach construction’s environmental impact,” he stated.
ECOPlanetUnicem offers substantial benefits, including a notable reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional cement while maintaining superior performance. It is versatile enough for a wide range of applications, from complex infrastructure projects to residential buildings, including concreting, plastering, and on-site block-making.
Commercial Director Gbenga Onimowo highlighted Lafarge Africa’s dedication to promoting green products within Nigeria’s built environment. “We are proud of this significant achievement,” he affirmed, citing the strong reputation and consumer trust earned by Unicem over the years.
Keynote speaker Prof Kingsley Nwozor from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University commended Lafarge’s innovation with ECOPlanetUnicem, stressing its role in reducing the industry’s carbon footprint. He urged other stakeholders to prioritize environmental sustainability and advocated for collaborative efforts to decarbonize the construction sector.
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s representative, Osinachi Nnajieze, acknowledged Lafarge Africa’s leadership in eco-friendly initiatives, aligning with the state’s environmental policies.
The launch event was attended by industry stakeholders, government officials, and customers, underscoring Lafarge Africa’s pivotal role in advancing sustainable construction practices in Nigeria and beyond.
